Brick Entrance Pillar Rebuild in Derby
We recently completed a full brick entrance pillar rebuild in Derby, restoring a damaged entrance feature and giving it a much cleaner, stronger finish.
The existing pillar had deteriorated to the point where a localised repair was no longer the best option, so the decision was made to carefully dismantle the brickwork and rebuild the pillar properly.
The original decorative stone cap and finial were an important feature of the entrance, so these were carefully retained and reused as part of the finished rebuild.
Full Pillar Rebuild
The damaged brickwork was taken down and the pillar rebuilt using facing bricks selected to match the existing masonry as closely as possible.
Care was taken to keep the new brickwork square, level and plumb, while maintaining the proportions of the original pillar.
Once the new brickwork had been completed, the joints were neatly pointed to provide a consistent finish and help protect the masonry from future weathering.
Original Stone Cap and Finial Reinstated
One of the standout features of this entrance pillar was the decorative stonework sitting above the brickwork.
Rather than replacing this with a modern alternative, the original stone cap and finial were carefully reinstated onto the newly rebuilt pillar.
This allowed the entrance to retain its original character while benefiting from completely renewed brickwork underneath.
